Monday Makes: Faux Fur Blanket
Oh. My. Glob.
I just finished my first project of 2020! Well technically I started this project in December 2019.. when I had no business to start any new projects due to my lengthy Christmas presents to-do list.
I instinctively crochet for others, imagining what they need, what they would want/appreciate. Especially during the gift season. But then I begin a cycle of feeling exhausted, realizing I rarely keep what I create. I know many makers out there can relate to this feeling, and to break this habit we all need a self-care project once in a while right??
Lately I have been passionate about interior decorating. Having an adorably designed home is such an uplifting aesthetic, especially when you spend as much time indoors as I because of the subpar weather of many wintery days. As I looked around my home I realized that without walking into my closet, I had nothing but coasters to show for my passion of crochet. That sparked me to look for some crochet home décor aspects to implement in my home STAT.
So when I came across The Paix Throw by the famously talented Teresa from DeBrosse, I knew instantly I had to make it! It was exactly what I was looking for – cozy, unique, and not obvious it’s handmade because of the luxe design and quality.
This throw is the PERFECT addition for cozy and custom home decor. All you need to complete this project are The Paix Throw pattern, 9 balls of Lion Brand Go For Faux yarn, and an uneventful weekend. Two of those three things can actually be found in this crochet kit! It’s so easy to make, so don’t be intimidated if you are a beginner crocheter.
Did I make any modifications? The pattern is great as it, I just added a border of single crochet around to help hold its shape and prevent from stretching out. My blankets get a TON of use in my house and I want them to stand the test of time. If you do what I did, you may need an additional ball of yarn just to be safe.
How long did it take me? I may have finished in a 3 day weekend while binge-ing The Magicians season 2-4 on Netflix…
I am now obsessed with this faux fur yarn. I mean fully obsessed. I don’t think I would have tried this yarn if it wasn’t for Teresa’s pattern but I’m glad I did. It is extremely soft, it doesn’t shed, and my cats love the texture maybe more than me. I have two more ideas for how to incorporate this fur around my home, and I hope to complete those projects and show you in the near future.
